Fretless Bass Mr PC

Read More »

Here’s a track I recorded messin’ around with the song Mr PC written by John Coltrane for jazz bassist Paul Chambers.
The intro line is a commonly used diminished idea heading into the C minor chord. Try it. Build the line from a half step below C which is B. The diminished chord is spelled with these notes;
D F Ab B..You can start on any of them and you will get the diminished vibe.

Mirror Me by Janie Barnett

Living in Brighton MA in the late 1970’s there were lots of musicians and Janie’s voice always floored me. She was a rock singer!!! It was a pleasure to recently get to play some fretless on this beautiful tune. Janie sent me the track and I recorded bass at my home. Bass is a Fender Precision rosewood neck with Pyramid flats.

Here’s a track w/o bass for you to jam with.

Ben Jarred and D Mo

Ben and I have been recording and performing since he was a student in my Survey of Bass Styles class at Berklee. Ben came to my office hour one day and we started talking about tennis and jam bands. We’ve been tight ever since! He has a knack for groove heavy playing, rhythm guitar. Most younger folks I encounter at Berklee are interested in playing lead guitar. Ben is like a brother to me. This track was recorded with his good friends down in Houston Texas. I recorded the Fender bass in Boston at my home.
